Ingredients:

  • 1 quart chocolate ice cream
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Prepare Ice Cream Balls: Scoop the chocolate ice cream into balls using an ice cream scoop. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for 30 minutes.
  2. Create Filling: In a bowl, mix together chocolate chips and chopped hazelnuts.
  3. Wrap Ice Cream: Take each ice cream ball and make a well in the center. Fill it with the chocolate chip and hazelnut mixture. Seal the ball, ensuring no filling is visible. Return to the freezer for at least 1 hour.
  4. Coat with Cocoa: In a shallow dish, mix cocoa powder, melted butter, and powdered sugar to form a paste. Roll each ice cream ball in the cocoa mixture until fully coated.
  5. Final Freeze: Place the coated balls back on the baking sheet and freeze for another 2 hours or until firm.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: When ready to serve, place the tartufos on individual dessert plates. Optionally, garnish with additional chopped hazelnuts or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

Cook’s Note: For a nut-free version, you can substitute chopped dried fruit or crushed cookies for the hazelnuts.
