Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made vegan pizza crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (look for one without added sugar)
  • 1 cup shredded vegan mozzarella cheese (brands like Daiya or Violife work well)
  • Fresh basil leaves, torn
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)
  • Olive oil (for brushing the crust)
  • Cornmeal (for dusting the pizza peel or baking sheet)

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Prepare the Crust:
    • Dust a pizza peel or baking sheet with cornmeal. This prevents the crust from sticking.
    • Roll out your pre-made pizza crust to your desired thickness. Transfer it to the prepared peel or sheet.
  3. Spread the Tomato Sauce:
    • Evenly spread the tomato sauce over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Layer on the Cheese:
    • Sprinkle the shredded vegan mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Make sure it covers the entire surface.
  5. Bake to Perfection:
    • If using a pizza stone, slide the pizza onto the hot stone (be careful!). Otherwise, bake directly on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Finishing Touches:
    • Remove the pizza from the oven. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top.
    • Scatter torn fresh basil leaves and red pepper flakes (if desired) for extra flavor.
  7. Slice and Serve:
    • Let the pizza cool for a minute, then slice it into wedges.
    • Serve hot and enjoy the gooey, plant-based goodness!

Cook’s Note

  • Alternative Cheese: If you can’t find vegan mozzarella, try using slices of dairy-free provolone or a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
  • Customize: Add sliced cherry tomatoes, olives, or arugula for extra pizzazz.
