- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- Lettuce leaves
- Ketchup and mustard (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat the Grill or Stovetop Pan:
- If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high heat.
- If using a stovetop pan, heat it over medium heat.
- Shape the Patties:
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.
- Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Patties:
- Place the patties on the grill or stovetop pan.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese to each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.
- Toast the Buns:
- While the patties are cooking, split the hamburger buns.
- Toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
- Assemble the Burgers:
- On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf.
