Welcome to a classic British comfort dish: Bangers and Mash! This hearty meal combines savory sausages with creamy mashed potatoes, all smothered in a rich onion gravy. Best of all, it’s ready in under 30 minutes, making it perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pork sausages
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)

Directions:

  1. Start by boiling the diced potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. While the potatoes cook, heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook until browned and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally.
  3. In another skillet, melt 1 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and return them to the pot. Mash them with the remaining butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In the skillet with the onions, stir in the beef or chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce. If desired, sprinkle in the flour to thicken the gravy. Simmer for a few minutes until thickened.
  6. Serve the sausages on top of a generous portion of mashed potatoes, and drizzle with the onion gravy.

Cook’s Note:

If you can’t find pork sausages, feel free to use any type of sausage you prefer, such as chicken or turkey. Additionally, you can customize the gravy by adding herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.
