- 1 pound (450g) mostaccioli pasta
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Pasta:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the mostaccioli pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain the pasta and set aside.
2. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef or Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and sprinkle in the dried oregano and basil.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked mostaccioli pasta with the prepared meat sauce.
- Mix until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
4. Assemble the Dish:
- Transfer the pasta and sauce mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.
5. Add Cheese Topping:
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the pasta.
- Follow by sprinkling the shredded Parmesan cheese on top.
6. Bake the Mostaccioli:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
