A tasty and filling pasta dish, baked mostaccioli is ideal for feeding a large group of people or spending quality time with your family. A tried-and-true favorite, It features a hearty blend of pasta, savory meat sauce, and melted cheese that never lets you down.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) mostaccioli pasta
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Cook the Pasta:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Cook the mostaccioli pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain the pasta and set aside.

2. Prepare the Meat Sauce:

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef or Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
  • Pour in the marinara sauce and sprinkle in the dried oregano and basil.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked mostaccioli pasta with the prepared meat sauce.
  • Mix until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.

4. Assemble the Dish:

  • Transfer the pasta and sauce mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.

5. Add Cheese Topping:

  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the pasta.
  • Follow by sprinkling the shredded Parmesan cheese on top.

6. Bake the Mostaccioli:

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking to allow the cheese to brown slightly.
