This is homemade granola bars so you are free to express your creativity and personalize these bars by adding your own ingredients. The secret is in the master mix, which starts with a simple granola bar foundation and can be transformed into eight other delicious versions. These bars is rich in fruits, nuts and also chocolate flavors. Time to mix!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup nuts (almonds, pecans, or cashews), chopped
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Mix-ins (choose from the variations below)

Instructions

  1. Create the Master Mix:
    • In a large bowl, combine rolled oats and chopped nuts.
    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
    • Add honey, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the melted butter. Stir until well combined.
    • Pour the honey-butter mixture over the oats and nuts. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Customize Your Bars:
    • Choose one of the following variations (or get creative with your own mix-ins):
      • Blueberry: Add dried blueberries and shredded coconut.
      • Dark Chocolate Cherry: Mix in dried cherries and dark chocolate chips.
      • Tropical: Use chopped dried fruit (pineapple, mango, and mandarin oranges) and shredded coconut.
      • White Chocolate Cranberry: Add dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and white chocolate chips.
      • Peanut Butter Chocolate: Stir in creamy peanut butter, M&M’s, and mini chocolate chips.
      • Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel: Combine creamy peanut butter, broken pretzel pieces, peanut butter chips, and mini chocolate chips.
      • Spiced Nuts: Mix in almonds, pecans, cashews, and a touch of cinnamon.
      • Sunflower Pecan: Add sunflower seeds, candy-coated sunflower seeds, and shredded coconut.
  3. Shape and Chill:
    • Press the mixture firmly into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
    • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until firm.

Cut and Serve

  • Remove the chilled granola slab from the pan.
  • Cut into bars or squares.
  • Serve as a grab-and-go snack or a delightful treat.
