Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice (short-grain or medium-grain)
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Raisins or dried fruit
Method
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt. Stir well to combine.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
- Once the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a lid. Simmer the rice mixture gently for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and has absorbed most of the liquid. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice from sticking.
- If using raisins or dried fruit, you can add them to the rice mixture about halfway through cooking, allowing them to plump up and infuse flavor into the dish.
- Once the rice is cooked and has reached a creamy consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Taste the rice and adjust the sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar.
