- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Cooked rice, for serving
Directions:
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken pieces to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken in the skillet.
- Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve the bourbon chicken over cooked rice, garnished with sliced green onions.
Cook’s Note: If bourbon is not available, you can substitute it with an equal amount of apple juice or chicken broth for a similar flavor profile.
