  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken pieces to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken in the skillet.
  5. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken, about 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve the bourbon chicken over cooked rice, garnished with sliced green onions.

Cook’s Note: If bourbon is not available, you can substitute it with an equal amount of apple juice or chicken broth for a similar flavor profile.
