Ingredients

  • 8 ounces (225g) good quality chocolate (semi-sweet, bittersweet, or milk chocolate), chopped into small chips.
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (for smoother texture)

Methods

*Begin by chopping the chocolate into small, even-sized chips. You can do this with a sharp knife on a cutting board.

*add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to the chopped chocolate. This helps the chocolate melt more evenly and gives a smoother finish.

*Place the chopped chocolate and vegetable oil in a heatproof bowl.

*Set up a double boiler: Fill a saucepan with a couple of inches of water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Place the heatproof bowl containing the chocolate over the saucepan, making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water.

*Gently stir the chocolate as it melts. Once melted and smooth, remove the bowl from the heat.

*Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.

*Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it out into an even layer with a spatula.

*Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill the chocolate until it’s firm, about 1-2 hours.

*Once the chocolate is firm, remove it from the refrigerator and use a sharp knife to chop it into small, uniform size.

*Store the homemade chocolate chips in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them in your baking recipes.

These homemade chocolate chips can be used in place of store-bought chocolate chips in cookies, muffins, cakes, and other baked goods.
