- 1 ½ pounds rib eye steak (boneless rib), thinly sliced
- ½ small pear, peeled and coarsely grated
- ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon Gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

- Prepare the Marinade:
- In a bowl, combine the grated pear, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and Gochujang. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Marinate the Beef:
- Add the thinly sliced rib eye steak to the marinade. Toss to coat evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.
- Cook the Bulgogi:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef slices and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Serve and Garnish:
- Arrange the cooked bulgogi on a serving platter.
- Drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Sprinkle with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Cook’s Note:
- Serve the bulgogi with steamed rice, lettuce leaves (for wrapping), and a side of kimchi or pickled vegetables.
- For a vegetarian version, use thinly sliced tofu or mushrooms instead of beef.
